But the units and doors are too good to get rid of

It doesn't look that bad. What about changing the tiles to white ones or something lighter?

Well- that rug is by swedish brand pappelina- perhaps start with that? They come in lots of different colours. You could paint your tiles with tile paint, I'm pretty sure you could paint the doors too.

Totally agree with keeping the units. You can tile over tiles, I found the pant starts to chip off. What about those white brick tiles. Dtd change the units just yet.

COuld you change the worktop? I think the tiles and units might look ok if you put a really good laminate or real wood worktop with them.
The tiles could look a bit retro if you got a bright rug to go in there as per your link.

Thanks so much for your help girls

Yes I will look into getting a new work top .

I had thought wood would look nice !!!

I think I need to tidy up and then post a few more photos

The problem is the bench and tiles are just so dark ....in what is a small but lovely bright kitchen .

I'm not set on the link above ....but what I crave is a beautiful FINISH

The house is from 1970 and the walls are bumpy and rubbish looking

Will post another link of what I would really like if I could just blow the budget

The size and layout of mine is very similar to the one above ....but my cooker is on the left ...and we have windows on the right too

Do you like this one ?

I don't really Hate it ....
We moved in two years ago
And just haven't had the money
But now MAY have the chance to spend a bit of cash ....and I suppose some quotes would focus the mind .....but I'm finding it hard to decide how ambitious I should be

see the horrible countertop ....it's dark ......but must be a very hard wearing composite ?..not a scratch on it sadly

The kitchen doors are good quality so I probably WOULD not get rid of those .....

But ? Update handles .

Ball park budget .2k .Could do some work ourselves ...but I don't want to.....

I feel your pain as we have a countertop made out of something visually unattractive, but utterly indestructible. I've put things on it straight out the oven, broken glasses on it (accidentally), dropped things, etc and it hasn't got a scratch. Fortunately (or unfortunately) the rest of the kitchen is also grim so it's not debatable, we just need to find enough money to scrap the lot.

I am slightly nervous how many people I know, who have finally got the dream kitchen and loved counters, and then immediately burnt or scratched them as they aren't hard wearing enough. One of my friends has a stainless steel worktop and I'm interested to see how it wears, as I'm very keen on the appearance and think it would work well in our small (also dark and North facing) kitchen.

It is a nice room, looks well fitted with a good cooker too.
I would look at the new laminate worktops which are very tough, Duropal is meant to be good
www.duropal.co.uk/
I think if you have a light worktop and cleared all the stuff away it could look modern and fresh like your link.
I'd also paint the walls.
Not sure re the tiles, it would freshen it up and be do-able on your budget. Have you seen any you like?
I think I'd be more inclined to change the floor first, a pale vinyl would work (perhaps with some pattern to hide marks).

Oh and painting the kitchen door to white or off white would make that look much better IMO.

Also there are firms which specialise in kitchen remodels, perhaps get some prices/ideas and then take a view, eg

Wall mount the microwave to save counter space.

For 2k you could change the units. And probably put in a wooden worktop. Maybe plain white units and keep the tiles?

For £2k you could get a new Ikea white gloss kitchen as long as you reused your appliances.

I feel your pain Grin it is very cheap looking, however the layout looks ok, so what about just changing the doors? And the worktop. And the tiles. And the floor. Oh dear. I quite like the industrial looking shelves though...just in a different kitchen.

I would change the doors, worktop and tiles - personally i wouldn't use a wooden worktop as they need work to keep them looking good and free from marks. also think you need to declutter, seems a lot of stuff on the worktops

I like the units and doors so would leave those but change the worktop for something lighter and either paint the tiles or tile over them. And yes, def get rid of the green wallpaper!

We inherited our kitchen nearly 7 yrs ago and changed the worktops and painted over the hideous orange feature tiles about 5 yrs ago. In the future it will all get ripped out but not yet.
