On a (very tight) budget, but kitchen-diner desperately needs painting. Have maple units, with black work tops. Tiles are mix of brown, cream, rust, dark blue, pale blue and pale green. Stuck for which colour to paint walls around units and in diner end. Currently blue, but looks dated. I want something up to date, classic and easy to keep looking clean. Help! Thanks

White is a very clean colour. We're decorating our house to sell and I've just painted the kitchen white and it has transformed it.

You can get tile paint if you want to change the colour of them, but I've never used it, so can't recommend.

Another cheap, easy change is to get a brushed stainless steel sheet to use as a splashback above your cooker. You can get it quite cheaply from a metal fabrication company, you will just need to give them a drawing with exact measurements.

Another cheap thing to do is just change the door and drawer handles for something more modern looking.

Not very exciting but given the amount of colour between the tiles and the worktop I think cream paint is your best bet.

ive used tile paint and its great, you need to bee careful applying it, a gloss small roller is the best for doing it as it goes on evenly and doesnt leave drop marks
i used the ronseal one coat (but needed 2 for the bathroom tiles as going from a blue colour to white) but only needed one coat for the kitchen as dark blue to black,
i moved in here 4 years ago and the tiles still look ok they could do with bein redone but i havent been arsed to do it
