Choosing art that will work with my colour scheme?

I really cannot decide on this.I am in need of some canvasses or prints (any type really just not the bog standard floral/scene crap)-interesting ones- but cannot decide what to get to make them work with my living room.

I'm not sure what can be pulled off colour wise.A bit of plum I don't mind.Wouldn't mind some blue.Grey ok with colour etc etc or do I need something totally different?Half of what I currently like would look out of place!

So you can picture it,the walls are this grey www.dulux.co.uk/colour/polished_pebble the plum feature wall and curtains are pictured below, sofa is grey and black (also added cushions matching the curtains),ivory carpet, plum rug with black and ivory and oak furniture to bring the warmth in.

So what can I get away with art wise on the plain grey walls that won't look out of place or matchy matchy bog standard Next wall art?

depends how big the feature wall is compared to the grey areas but you could frame a bit of the wallpaper from the feature wall and hang it on the plain wall? or is there another wallpaper by the same company that is the same colours that could be used or the same pattern but in a contrasting colour? if so just get a sample of it.

I think classic black-framed charcoal drawings with cream/white background and mounting would work well, assuming that kind of thing appeals to you.

You can mix and match subjects and styles, just as long as you keep the black/grey and white or cream theme and the pictures are in the same frames. Loads of examples of all kinds of stuff here.
