Would you paint an oak front door?

After contemplating moving for a while we have decided to stay put for the next few years. This means that I can (kind of) justify spending a bit of money on the things that have been bugging me since we moved in, 4 years ago.

The house is a 1930s mid-terrace and I have been wanting a painted, period front door, similar to some other houses in the area. I have ordered this one (on phone so not sure if link will work)

And had planned to have it painted with gloss, maybe dark blue or dark green. (Secretly want a bold yellow but unlikely to be brave enoughSmile ) I showed my mum the door online and she thinks it would be a crime to cover the wood, and I should just have it clear glazed. What do you think?

No, if I had an oak front door I would oil it or varnish it.

If you're going to paint it then there's no point in paying out for oak.

Before you take the old door off - why not paint it your dream colour ?! Ie bold yellow ! ( just in time for spring ! Hope you planted daffodils !) indulge yourself just a bit ! Then, have a family vote on wether to paint the new door the same colour - once the family have gotten used to it !
The new door is a lovey door ! Would look fab oiled or painted IMO !
