Slightly foxed armchair - advice?

We've very kindly been given an armchair for a guest bedroom we're fitting out for our au pair.

The armchair is wonderful quality and will last forever, a vast low-slung behemoth that weighs about the same amount as the Titanic and is incredibly comfortable. However it is upholstered in a gold and cream brocade fabric with gold satin fringe which can most charitably be described as slightly foxed.

The bedroom it's going into has a dark blue carpet and white walls, blue and white pillows on the bed, white bedding, whitewashed pine bedframe, the whole room is blue and white really. No budget for reupholstering at the moment - the rest of our furniture is also rather foxed (and possibly badgered and somewhat weaseled) but I don't want the au pair to think that we've just stuck her with some old rubbish and hate us as soon as she moves in.

Any advice on what to do with the armchair to make it look a bit better in a guest bedroom/au pair's room?

I would buy a really jazzy brocade cushion in a totally contrasting colour. A mis matched look is much more up to date and will make the chair look like its supposed to be there, than adding a blue cushion and trying to blend it in.
Or another possibility might be to rip the fringing off and tack or glue (fabric or hot glue) a bright mini pom pom trim along instead of fringing.

Hi, sorry I am probably too late but I would probably paint the chair, including the fabric! There are examples of how good this can work if you google "painting fabric with Annie Sloane paint". You don't have to use ASCP but it should set you on right track to finding examples and instructions for other types of paint.
