Ikea Hemnes Day Bed

I've fallen in love with the idea of buying this for my DD's room. Any opinions?
Size is slightly narrower than usual single bed. Hard to get decent J Lewis mattress, etc. So , have to use the ikea foam one.
Pretty or big mistake? She's almost 3.

Very pretty, loads of storage. It is big in a room though. We had the foam mattresses (are you going to get 2 for when it's pulled out?) and for everyday I'd say get a better quality IKEA mattress.

We've just passed ours on to someone else, it's a great bit of furniture.

We had one, small single mattresses fit fine. Didn't need the ikea ones.

IHeartKing, I'd rather get her a better quality mattress but it doesn't seem to be able to take one. Dimensions are funny: 200x80, I think.

We bought the mattresses from IKEA as well but it's just used for our study and occasional guests so didn't feel the need to splash out.

Brilliant. Also extremely useful as an easy guest double bed. We went a couple up from the basic mattress and it didn't cost too much.

We love ours and have found the foam mattresses surprisingly comfortable.
I would say that it is very high when there are two on top of each other, if you are going to use it as a double occasionally, so I'd be wary of my DD falling out with a bang.

We used to store the spare mattress down the back of the bed - you couldn't see it.

It's a nice bed, I know a few people who have bought it and love it. Please bear in mind though that IKEA does not sell fitted sheets to fit the 80x200 mattress - you'll have to use flat sheets or find somewhere else that does, or try using the standard single sheets which are 90cm wide.

We have an IKEA daybed for dd, think it is the cheaper one though. I would say it is great, foam mattress is surprisingly comfortable, bed is easily wide enough for my 5 year old. She has two mattresses piled up now, but when she was younger she just had one and we kept the other under our bed.
Because it had a raised edge, it meant she was unlikely to lose teddies down the side, which was a bonus.

It was a nightmare to build though.

We have one, we bought it for our son when he was 3 as he went into the spare room due to New baby and we still needed a guest bed so we used it as a double for guests and he slept on a readybed. It is quite high, we kept a duvet on the floor until we were confident he wouldn't fall out but he never did. He used it until he went into bunk beds with his brother at 6 and it is now a spare bee again. The storage drawers are brilliant and it is very easy to pull out.

We used the foam Ikea mattresses and they are still fine. We used normal single fitted sheets.

SidAndSexy, which mattress did you find to fit?

DD has the whole Hemnes range. I really like it.
It's been fine for her (and she's now 15) but I have to say that I've slept on it a couple of times and not found it very comfortable - but I may have been spoilt by my own bed.
Ikea mattresses are a bit thin, especially when you split them to make the double. Also, when the drawers are full, it's quite cumbersome to slide out the extra bed bit.
Duvets don't always look very slick, as they bunch up a bit on the wall side, but I'm sure someone more artistic might have a solution to that.

But on the whole, I'd recommend it.

It's hard to find other UK mattresses to fit IKEA beds as IKEA singles and doubles are longer (200 cm compared to 190 cm) although google threw up a few custom made ones.

My DD had this from the age of 8-13. It was great until she grew too much into a big teenager.

We bought a decent IKEA mattress and used half of a sofa bed Ikea mattress on the other side if she had a friend staying over.

Loads of storage in the drawers and the fact there are 3 meant you could split the toys up (e.g one for brats, one for bear stuff)

She had big cushions for day use which hid the bump in the duvet.

My daughter has that bed. It's fab she 9 now. Her current bedroom is not big Enough to use the pull out but the storage is fantastic, yes bed is narrow but no problem as yet, we also have 2 Ikea mattresses and they r fine

My bro in law has one. Mother in law hates it. Says its like sleeping in a coffin! We have the double bed and it is rubbish (slats falling off underneath). And it doesn't take standard sized sheets so we always have to buy from ikea.
