how much did you pay for your bathroom?

and more specifically, its installation?
it's easy enough to see the price of baths, loos, basins on the internet, but I'm trying to work out much the whole thing will cost, including a tiled floor
this is obviously a how much is a piece of string question, but i'm interested and it would give me some parameters

Work is starting on our new shower room next week. It's roughly 3x3meters and currently an office so starting from scratch (e.g., will have to join the soil pipe, thankfully quite close to where the new loo will be). We had four quotes ranging from 4 - 5.5k.

Generally, labour has been about 2 - 2.5k of the quote, this includes 1-2 days for an electrician (lots of work needed), tiling, plumbing, removal of artex ceiling and coving. We are having an extractor fan and a heated towel rail put in also, and a tall cupboard built.

Broken down, I think it's worked out as -
1500 total for the shower, sink and loo
800 for tiles (amtico vinyl floor, stone wall, just inside the shower cubicle and above the sink)
500 for other materials, e.g., for the cupboard
then 2k ish labour.

we are having an en suite on a budget put in next week and it is £800 inc labour.

that includes bath and panel with those taps that also have a shower hose, basin and loo and all the joiny bits that go behind. it is currently an en suite so some plumbing in place but no loo ridiculously so everything is getting moved around.

we will be doing tiling, painting and flooring separately.

I hope it all looks OK - bit nervous as we have only seen pics of the bits so it could be a disaster. but with dc2 imminent we need one complete bathroom in this house.

Mine cost approx £1500. Materials about £1000, labour about £500 - a weeks work for my builder / plumber. The £1000 included bath, shower, toilet, wash basin, wooden floor, and tiles around bath and all the plumbing-type parts. Still haven't sorted shower rail and curtain, and mirror for above basin ... that's on my to-do list for this summer.

We've been quoted from £5k to £12k to get an ensuite fitted! It's shocking. I don't know why the quotes are so high, other than because it's a hassle to run a new waste pipe and we need to replace the soil pipe.

wow poocatcher & EachAnd - yours sound v good value! I ran through a quote with the bathstore this morning. the individual items i picked didn't seem that much but all of a sudden i was hitting 5000 (2000 of which is labour). Ouch

we've done it the other way to your investigations. we called our plumber who has done things for us before and asked him for a quote including sourcing the goods.

he knows we are skint though so has done his best.

If we had a good plumber or some contacts I'd prefer to do it that way. (is your plumber in London? if so please do PM me his details!) we've had work done before - twice by a cheaper guy whose team did an ok job but we're not sure about entrusting them with this house as it's the first we properly care about (the last we lived in with the intention of turning it into a rental) and another time by in-law recommendation who was expensive and I don't know how to go about negotiating with him as the connection is too personal

4.7k for ripping out the old stuff, replastering, new ceiling, new floor, new skirtings, radiators, installing extractor, bath, all sanitary ware, tiles, and labour. I think it added up to 2.7 materials and 2k labour. that includes a management fee to the plumber who sorted out the electrician, plasterer etc, so we were done and dusted in 4 days.

not cheap, but they were really good.

we were quoted as much as £3K for labour only for replacing a suite, putting in an over the bath shower and tiling the walls ( only 1 and a bit walls.)
we thought it was much too much.

Depends whether you're moving anything too (like moving the position of the loo) as that would bulk the cost up. We had a shower cubicle installed with laminate wall panels (nice ) where there was no shower in a useless corner of our bathroom and it cost over 5k for the materials (inc shower etc) and labour although with hindsight I think we were taken for a ride and payed way over the odds . I was heavily pregnant and we wanted to get it installed before DD was born

We popped into a bathroom and tiling place yesterday to get an idea of costs, the chap told us the average cost was £3,500. Our budget is a little less but we both though this is great they'll install, plaster, tile etc. then we realised that was just the installation cost and he said the cheapest was £7,500 all in.

We went home and googled how to tile.
