Stairwell and landing decoration

Here is a link to some pics of our stairway, it leads off an entrance hall which is pale blue with wooden floors. It's quite narrow, as is the upstairs landing and currently painted white. Any ideas on colours etc to give it more personality?

(There isn't anywhere else convenient for shoes right now unfort)

I'd put bannisters in rather than that hardboard thing going on, to open it up and let in more light.

Yes not a bad idea.

I quite like the white walls! What about a few more pictures and a stripy runner rather than the beige carpet?

I love the curtain fabric! Where is it from?

I never know what people with stripy runners do when it gets upstairs. The stairs lead on to the landing, which is quite long and thin.... Do you carry it along, or change to a different floor.

Fabric is a William Morris - its an arts and crafts house so I love him.

ah, that would be why I love it then!

suspect it might be out my price range then Sad

With runners, I think the usual solution is to stop it just under the top of the stairs. And start the landing carpet in the same place.

I think there are some companies that do the same fabrics for runners and carpets. or you can carry the runner on, if it's narrow.
