What to add to brown sofa and hard floor

Hi

I'm surrounded by rugs and cushions I've bought which now need to be returned! All looks a mishmash of varying browns.

As we've had to replace our flooring in the lounge I thought I'd try to update the room a little. We have a medium brown leather suite and good quality laminate flooring in a warm oak. We also have walnut coffee table and lamp table. So I have brown, brown and more brown. All these items are in good enough condition so I'd like to keep them.

The curtains have yellowed over time so they're going.

What I'm stuck on is what cushions, throws, rugs I can add. I like duck egg blue and have seen nice cushions curtains and a rug in this colour but am a bit worried this could be overkill.

Can anyone recommend a colour scheme? How do you break up brown leather sofa and wooden floor?

Colour / design / textures advice desperately needed!!

Thank you

If I were you, I'd take a look at Moon fabrics, they have some beautiful plaids and checks which are really popular at the moment. Look at Huntingtower grape, its a really soft heathery colour with a light creamy background. This type of colour will soften up the browns, in a classy way. Duck egg and brown is a great combination aswel. try www.moons.co.uk or www.in-t-rio.com

I am looking at the same sort of thing. Brown floor, brown sofas. I've had the same thought about curtains/blinds in a plaid with a bit of heathery purple/gold/olive green and a toning colourful large stripy rug. Lots of wall pictures, cushions etc to brighten it up. Walls plain but not too pale I think (I feel 100 tester pots coming on)

(I have just pinned Moon fabrics thanks!)

Think about some toning but contrasting colours for accenting - rug, cushions etc - or wall colour, that would work with the brown, e.g. a soft blue.

Have a look at these pics, for instance.

this one

I love the picture and the vase picking up the clout from the rug, needs more inspired cusions.

I think light walls, light curtains and accent in different textures and at different heights so brown isn't the thing that hits you.

Colour, clout, I'd like to clout the idiot who designed autocorrect.

Your room sounds like my ling room. We two massive dark brown leather sofas and a warm oak hardwood floor, laura ashley garratt
(In the chestnut) coffee table, lamp table and bookcase, so lots of brown!

We also have:
Walls painted in laura ashley twine
Massive mirror
Massive paintings with lots of bright colours in
Big beige ish rug
Curtains in red, bamboo and brown all over textured damask (quite contemporary)
Love seat in a beige colour
Loads of cushions in neutrals, red stripy pattern, the same fabric as the curtains, a bamboo colour chunky knit, a silk and a satiny feel
Plant in a copper look pot
Big floor lamp with lots of shades

I dont know if any of that is your kind of thing!

Apart from the red in the curtains and some cushions, i have loads of neutral with my brown. But there are lots of different textures which i think breaks it all up.

We've got a similar colour scheme in terms of sofas and the floor. We added some cushions and a mirror with a soft red in them to warm it all up. It looks very cosy and we're happy with it. Teal also works well with brown imo. Have fun choosing!
