Hi

Please my my previous post below but I couldn't sort out my profile. Rejoined in the hope it will now work. Here's hoping

Boobooyou - previous name

We are getting so fed up in trying to choose a kitchen table so wondered if anyone out there could help. Please see the photo on my profile of our new kitchen, we moved in 2 weeks ago.

The floor is grey tile, work surfaces brown earth stone, units off white with faint wood grain. Hob and extractor fan black glass.

Now the question is do we go glass, if so clear or black or wood ? We are worried the wood wouldn't be modern enough but glass to stark. We have been looking at extendable tables as normally it will just be the 3 of us want want the option of 6+. Then the question is what chairs? Arghhhhh

There is a snug area off the kitchen which has chocolate walls and a brown leather sofa.

Any advice or thoughts would help massively. Thank you

Tricksy I can see your quandary.

We have white matt units and island, wood floor and had a table made for us by a joiner using elm we salvaged from the front of the house. Most joiners can supply wood if you don't have your own, and then you can make the design and size exactly to your spec. Ours is v modern. It's not as expensive as it sounds, either.

We have ended up making or having made a lot of items in the house eg desks bookcases shelving etc as the right size or shape is not available.

Something to consider anyway.

I have read one of your posts before taffeta and your table sounds perfect. The only other wood we have, hope you can now see, is a wooden window sill and blinds. So not sure if it would look out of place.

How hard is it to find reasonably price nice furniture. This is only the first room we have the rest to do yet. I will end up driving myself mac

Lovely kitchen! What sort of budget are you on?

Thanks notmarlene. I would say max £1000 including chairs.

I can't see the photo of your kitchen, but a furniture maker once told me that any wood goes with any wood. I've always stuck by that and mix my woods in every room, ie some oak, some cherry etc. But then I don't like matchy matchy interiors and think they look too twee and too planned.

So I'd be inclined to go for something that didn't match and a black glass table would be like you'd got it to match the cooker and extractor fan. You could get a modern wooden table, in a light oak maybe?

If you have a wooden window sill and blinds, I think a wooden table would be warm and cosy.

That was my point yesterday chicaguapa, I totally agree with that. My concern with glass especially black is that it will scratch and look very dated quickly.

We can't find good modern wooden tables in out budget. I loved the stride in John lewis but the quality was terrible

I'm assuming you've checked M&S but this one has good reviews for quality. It also extends in the middle, which I like, rather than sticking a leaf on the end.

I would go for a wooden table and white contemporary chairs

Ikea do a back brown wood stained table that is quite grey.

Have you looked at Dwell? They have some modern tables.

Like the idea of a wooden table and contemporary white chairs.

I do like the marks one. DP popped into dwell but said they were a bit flimsy. Will look at ikea now. I did think about dark wood do you think that could work also ?

The eames vitra chairs in white with a dark wood table would suit your kitchen.

Oh can't find the price but they look expensive. I do like that idea though noddyholder. Suggested the DP he likes but chairs would have be strong to support his larger physic Smile

Thank you for all of your ideas. Going to look into the dark wooden table and light modern chair. May have to search long and hard as we need 6 chairs. I am sure I will be back once we begin on our next room. Thank you
