Colour suggestions for through sitting/dining room running north-south?

That's it really. Finally got some money in the pot to decorate. At the moment the ceilings and most of the walls are a hideous dirty white artex, with some of one wall white vinyl with green spriggy flowers all over. Classy! Also have a vile green mottled carpet. We moved in to this more years ago than I care to remember, and mostly I can ignore as our books, pictures etc cover plenty but the time has come...

I know that there is a decent wooden floor under the horrid carpet that we'll probably reveal, and I like strong colour, particularly orangey tones. The south end is the dining end. Big windows both ends.

Thoughts anyone?

I have an egg yolk colour on my walls and Laura Ashley Walcott mimosa wallpaper (they don't sell it anymore but you can check eBay) on chimney and alcoves. Satin white on all woodwork a stunning huge old fashioned radiator in off white and a massive 8 seat off white with wooden top dining table. There is also a 5x5 Ikea bookcase thing and a large brown leather chair which sounds odd but actually goes rather well. My dining room is my favourite room in the house it's so bright.

That sounds lovely! We also have a run of Ikea bookshelves, and a leather sofa. I'll look out for egg yolk and try a tester pot. Something different on the chimney breasts a good plan too.
