Carpet whole house?

Our new property is a housing association and I didn't realise they ripped all carpets up before they re-let so now I'm faced with doing the lot before we move in as with small children it isn't feasible to go with bare floorboards, the noise alone is horrendous. Any ideas where is best to look or what sort of money I'm looking at?

I need to do two lots of stairs/landings, large lounge, three bedrooms and dining room!

Oh gosh I'd just treat the floorboards and then have rugs! Much nicer and cleaner too!

I've just been faced with the same and have carpet in living room and my bedroom (luckily paid for by a charity). I'm putting laminate in the hallway and laminate effect lino in the other two bedrooms to keep costs down.
Kitchen is being redone so not worrying about that for now, and HA will put in bathroom floor as part of refitting that.
The floorboards in mine were manky so no chance to leave them.

I'm trying to get mine all done before I move in too. It also has wrecked walls/ceilings from the rewire. I'm seeing a guy this morning who is hopefully going to strip and put lining paper and then paint in the living room and hallway at a knock down price.
I'm then going to pay my friend's DD to clean it all as it's really dusty and the windows are filthy.
I have an illness which means I can't do physical stuff, and I can't be around lots of dust.

@Netto - how did you get charity to pay for carpets?

There is no way I can just put rugs down the floorboards are dirty and in bad shape.

I think it's a bit rough that they leave it like this, I mean if you move in private or even brought your place you expect at least something underfoot, especially with young children.

Oh well, I guess we just have to try to get loans or credit card or something to pay for it all.

It works out cheaper if you are happy to have it all the same throughout - they can get more out of a roll or something, and do joins where suit the length they have. Go to a few shops, with your room measurements and ask them what they can do for you. Make sure you compare like with like - get the total price, as some might draw you in on a cheaper by the sq metre price on the carpet then charge you more for underlay or gripper, or some say free fitting and add it on to the carpet cost and others charge for fitting, but it might be cheaper overall.
Seems such a waste to have ripped out the carpet that was already down Shock

Our place was like this, there were even nails sticking up from the middle of the sitting room floor and false teeth in the cupboards Shock

We put homebase value laminate in the sitting room, it only cost about £80 for the room and has done us two years so far, but I want it carpeted now we can hopefully afford it. We just went to carpet right for upstairs as we needed something down ASAP. They will have a big January sale on. We went for cheapest carpet and decent underlay

Pink, my OT rang Young Carers (my DD is my Carer), who called St Vincent De Paul, and they paid for the carpets in those two rooms.

Most of the walls have now been stripped in my living room and hallway, will check in with decorator again tomorrow.
Once I have a date when it'll be done, I'll arrange the other floors.
It's a huge pita, though it is a lovely flat, just it was left in a mess, and my illness means I can't be around dust, nor could I move in with no flooring because of the cold.
