Interviewed yesterday am for a good full time job. Presentation and interview. Took nearly 2 hours. I was one of 3 and the last one in would be finished around 3-3.30.

They said because of the b/h id know by Wed.

I heard nothing last night. My understanding of jobs is if you get it they tell you fast to find out if you want it and to give you time to think about it before informing other candidates.

The waiting is going to kill me as I really want this job but Ive had a lot of rejection recently and the call has always come the day after the interview.

Depends on the company. My public sector employer would never get back to you that quickly. I had a colleague where they actually forgot to offer her the job. First she heard was weeks later when her soon to be boss phoned to agree her start date and was appalled to find she hadn't been offered the job yet.

Nope. Companies don't always call on the day. They may need to discuss further, talk to others in the team about who they think will be the best fit, get further approval to actually make an offer to someone, discuss increasing the salary for the best candidate - lots of things.

The number of times I've told people we will let them know by a certain date and then it's been later ...! Always annoys and embarrasses me but that's how it goes sometimes. If they said Wednesday you should not even be thinking about it until then.

These things aren't as simple as, "right, let's have her". There might be some debate internally is the decision is not unanimous. There may be budget issues eg one candidate cheaper than another. It may be that the person making the final decision is just too busy to deal with it.

Try to relax and at least wait until Wednesday before jumping to conclusions.

When interviewing we've generally known straight away who we want to take on, but there's other factors that can delay the offer going out such as more senior person not available to give the say so, or HR being difficult to get hold of. Don't despair.

Each time I've employed someone I usually take a day or so to mull it over despite usually knowing within the first 20 minutes. Every company is different so don't give up hope, good luck!

We'd never let someone know the same day. In fact, I can't imagine that we'd commit to telling you by Wednesday if you were interviewed on Friday, even without the bank holiday. By the end of the week might be more likely.

Also, you don't reject the others till your first choice has accepted the offer.

Never underestimate how slowly admin can work... Also, we've got quite a lot of people out next week (as they only need to take 4 days leave, not 5), and that would also slow things down, as you have to have various people's approval before sending out an offer.

Thanks everyone. The waiting is very difficult . If i do get it it will mean almost doubling our household income which would be amazing. Fingers crossed, it would be lovely after years of self employed jobs here and there.

Well today I hopefully will find out for good. I've had a churning stomach all weekend and feel exhausted with the anxiety.

They said by Wednesday. I would be surprised if you do find out today - and they might even be late and not get around to letting people know until Thursday.

Haven't got it. To say I'm gutted is an understatement. I'm so fed up of being at home with the kids 24 hours a day. The thought of just another week of this is unbearable.

Have you asked them for feedback why you weren't successful?

Yes its the same old story. I was very good but someone else was better. It's the 5th let down in 3 months. All the same story! I was good but someone else is better.

Rinky, it's a matter of when, not if.

Keep plugging away. It will happen.

I know how disheartening it is particularly when you really need to job for urgent money or sanity!

I've come second in the last four interviews I've done. Told I've done a great interview but "on the day" someone was better. It's totally gutting. All you can do is just keep plugging away.

Nothing more helpful to add but keep going.

I'm in the same boat after being an SAHM for 4 years, I feel lucky to have even been invited for an interview.
