Applying for two roles in the same place

The situation is I've applied for a support role at a college and as soon I had submitted it, a similar but more specialised role comes up the day after and the closing date is a week later than the first.

Now as the closing dates have not even been and gone yet, I might be worrying myself unnecessarily. However, if I had the good fortune to be invited for an interview for both jobs and say they are a week apart, what would be best practice if I was offered a job for the first but really want to know whether I'd be successful in the second one which I prefer.
Could I ask them to wait until I've been to the second interview or just accept the first in case I don't get offered a job for the second one?
