How to become an arts teacher at secondary school?

I have a BA in photography and extensive work experience in photography, studio and dark room work, digital design (illustrator, photoshop etc). I am used to working creatively but at the tender age of 28 I have still not learned to draw or paint.

Are there different avenues into the profession?

Can I forget becoming an arts teacher if I don't actually draw/paint?

Does anyone have experience working as an arts teacher or even arts technician in school? Thanks x

I was going to say PGCE or whatever graduate scheme they have these days to lure people into teaching. However, seeing that you neither paint nor draw, then I really can't see how you can become an Art teacher at secondary school since a lot of it IS traditional painting and drawing, oh and if you're also handy with ceramics then that is a bonus.

That is not to say that you can't start doing it now. Do you have a portfolio as I imagine that will be what potential employers would want to see. Have you thought about being an A Level or GCSE photography/Media teacher at an FE college? I think that might work better.

By the way, I am not an art teacher but a former maths teacher at secondary school but I did do art GCSE.
