Due back to work this Wednesday - shall I chase them?

My years maternity leave is almost up. I'm due to go back 2nd July (Wednesday!)
I emailed a couple of months ago and told them I'm not doing very well physically or emotionally and have been diagnosed with PTSD & PND/anxiety following a traumatic birth of dc2.
I'm on medication and having weekly counselling.
The new HR person (started while I was on mat leave) emailed sorry to hear that. You're not due back for two months yet. Hopefully you'll be better by then. Keep us updated (in a nutshell).

Saw GP last Tuesday and although I'm doing a little better (compared to before I started treatment) I am nowhere near 'normal', I wouldn't be able to cope with going back to work or making the decision to never go back.
Called head office same day but HR out of the office for the day. I emailed that I am not ready to come back, what do they need me to do now?
Got an out of office reply to be returning Friday.
Not heard anything since.

Do I chase them up or have I done my bit and now just wait?

GP is happy to do a sick note, or send a formal medical report with my consent if they ask for it. Psychiatrist happy to do a report for them even HV has said she can if needed.

I hate not knowing what's happening but don't really want to talk to anyone on the phone as I think I'll get upset.

Sorry it's long, Confusedhope this all makes sense. Thanks for reading & any help or advice.

Hi! I am farmySmile

I am not an hr expert but have been a manager for some time so know a tiny bit.

I would think that you would be officially returning to work but on sick leave - ie not on maternity leave any more and so with different rights etc.

Have you called acas? They are brilliant and have a helpline - they will give you advice from the employer's point of view which is quite helpful.

Sorry you've had such a shitty time Hmm. Of course you can't go back or make important decisions about it.

I'd forward your email onto your boss and anyone else you know is on because even though you sent the email, they didn't receive it so might still be expecting you, it would make me uneasy. Good luck with your continued recovery.
