Return to nursing course - a new thread

I know there have been several threads but fancied starting a new one Grin

I am based in the South West and so Oxford Brookes was nearest course but this has now been tendered out to UWE in Bristol.

Still doable for me and would try and get local placements.

Anyone else thinking of doing the same or anyone recently completed course.

Do you get paid while doing the course? I read on here that you would get HCA salary around band 2 or similar (so approx £14,000 pa).

Is this correct? Is this pro rata though - really need to find out how this works as couldn't afford to take 6 months with no pay.

Thanks x

Hi, please see my thread from about 4 days ago. Its a structure that we have developed in Nottinghamshire. However, Health Education England are developing a national campaign to attract nurses back into the profession that will be launched on Sept 29th 2014. It plans to have a clear robust, supported structure for nurses across England. Contact your local Health Board, they go by the names of the area such as 'Health Education NorthWest' etc, if not Health Education England will be able to help. Hope that's of some help and Good Luck, we need experienced, compassionate, committed nurses - Welcome Back In!!!

Hey, I've just qualified as a staff nurse, you do get some money whilst on the course, believe the minimum now is 270ish a month (called a bursary) however more gets added on for childcare costs and you get student loans, you can also join agencies and do bank shifts as a HCA which is good money, where I was based you got £80 for 6 hours on a weekend, night shifts were more or less double and you can work the shifts around placement and your LO. Hope this has helped a little
