Co has created a p/t job for me, should I negotiate salary?

Got a bit of a quandry I'm hoping you talented ladies can help me with.

I've been out of the 'proper' jobs market for about 4 years but working freelance part time for nationally recognised clients.

I recently went for a job interview. It went really well and I have been offered a job... but not the one I went for.

The job was full time and I can only work part time. There was mention of a job share but it seems in the end they have decided to offer the job to a candidate who can work the hours required. Fair enough.

However, they have written and said how impressed they were and that they have decided to create a new position for me so I can join the team. The job is part time and on the days I prefer to work.

So far, so fab!

But the salary they have offered me is right at the bottom of the scale we talked about. I'm happy ish, with it and really want to work with this company. They said there might be scope for a salary review after the probationary period (but lets face there never really is, is there?)

So do I count my blessings, take the job and work at it in the hope that I can build up.

Or do I try and negotiate a slight rise - I'd be looking at another 2k ish.

What do you think?
Thank you!

I would ask on the basis that the worst they can do is say no. if they like you that much the they created the role there is probably some scope for negotiation.

I'd ask. They have saved £5k or whatever on agency fees by advertising once and securing 2 members of staff.

If they really want you I am sure they can find another £2k.

You are right to go for the money now, it is unlikely to appear 3 months after.

And they can only say no.

Good luck.
