Direct selling: anyone got any views?

I've not worked outside the home since 2005.

I'm casting about for family friendly work.

Direct selling could be possible. A friend sells clothes and makes a few £.

I was thinking underwear. Bra lady.co.uk

Does anyone have any direct selling experience or views they would care to share, please?

I do Phoenix Trading - direct selling cards, giftwrap and stationery. I took this on when my main job was very quiet but I didn't want to leave. Good sides: Lovely products, meeting new people, very flexible, a little extra money, can build a business at my own pace.
Bad sides: Constantly having to motivate myself and find new customers, can get rather chaotic at busy times.
Mostly I love it. Think about what you are selling very carefully though - our products have a very low price and are a good repeat purchase. I don't feel that people are doing me a favour by buying from me as they cant' get a similar product cheaper elsewhere (not of the same quality, anyway). People need lots of cards (generally), over and over again.
