Have you successfully changed your career and if so, what did you change to?

I've decided I need to change my career. I've followed it for the money for too long and I'm unhappy. Please inspire me with your career changes as I need the confidence to do something about it.

I have to reply to this because I could have written this post a few years ago! I'm a 31 year-old French teacher (currently on maternity leave with an 11 week old boy) but worked as a recruitment consultant after graduating at 22 until I was 28 when I eventually realised that the money and perks weren't enough to keep me in a job that I knew I didn't enjoy and didn't want to do for life.

It was a HUGE gamble but I left my well paid job to retrain and do a PGCE to become a teacher and it was the best decision have ever made (except marrying my hubby and having our son). People at work thought I'd gone mad leaving the money to start on £0 retraining and with no guarantee that I'd even find a teaching job after the year at uni/on work placements but I was cautiously confident in my decision, it just felt right.

Fast forward three years and I love my job and am so glad that when I return to work and my son goes to nursery, I'll be returning to something I enjoy doing.

GO FOR IT Carol! I genuinely look forward to going to work now (well....as much as anyone can enjoy getting up to go to work!) and when I drive home I feel that I've done a good days work, compared to how I felt in my old career.

Hi Jess, thanks for your post and you are inspiring me! Teaching is something I have considered. As you are now a languages teacher, did you study that originally at University? I studied languages at Uni but am a bit rusty tbh.
