Any advice re coping with evening/night work?

I'm planning to go back to work in the next few months. My job includes 9-5 but also I have to do early evening and night work up to 2-3 times a week in some weeks. However, the evenings/nights that I need to work each week are not fixed and can be at short notice (nature of the work rather than boss being unreasonable).

I've been looking into nurseries and these cover the daytime support I need, but I'm wondering how best to cover the evenings/nights for childcare. My DH works long hours with and hour-and-a-half commute to/from work so whilst he could do nights he wouldn't be back home in time to do pick-up from nursery. We have no family nearby who could help out.

Does anyone work in similar situation or have advice on how I could work this in terms of childcare? I'm worried if I can't find a way of working this I'll have to give up my job (which I love).

Is there a childminder in your area that does evenings? Might be worth looking into. There is also a nursery where my dparents live that Di 6am to 10pm, is there anything like that in your town or how about moving closer to Dhs work?
