Work

I need a confidence boost

I trained as a hairdresser about 14 years ago, only NVQ level 2 and worked for a couple of years in a salon. It wasn't trendy , mostly cut and blow dries , perms, wash and sets .

I gave it up and went to Uni to retrain in the medical field. To boost my income I take in lodgers but I find it very trying living with them.

So I have booked myself on a one to one hairdressing refresher course and plan to do mobile hairdressing. The trouble is I feel I've lost confidence in cutting/ styling hair etc

How can I get over this? Doing someone's hair is a very personal thing and I was always conscious that its important to clients that they look nice. What if I don't do a good job ? What if I mess it up? Heeeelp!

The course is costing me £200 so I need to make it work.

Can you ask friends or family if they need their fringe cutting/a quick trim? It really sounds like one of those things that actually doing is much easier than just thinking about it. You just need to get back into the groove...

Remember too how lovely it is to have someone cutting your hair who actually gives a damn! Maybe try to stop your worries at 'high-standards' and give yourself a break after that.

Good luck!

Thanks Boo. I think I am over thinking it. I'm fine with normal hair cuts, it's more the youngsters ' wonky ' Justin beiber, quiffy styles that baffle me. Hopefully I'll brush up on that sort of thing on the refresher course.

Yeah, you will, and you'll have all the experience behind you that them youngsters don't. Hope you enjoy it.
