Anybody gone into journalism at the age of 30+, or even 40+?

Is journalism something you can go into at a mature age, or is it a young person's game? Also is it feasible if you are tied to one area of the country, which is not London (or Manchester or Edinburgh or Cardiff or anywhere that could conceivably be considered a centre for journalism, though the local uni does an MA in Journalism)?

It is hugely competitive. The recession and the press standards enquiry has hit the industry hard, pushing many into freelance work The Internet has increased numbers of self made freelance and blogging journos so the industry is swamped. It is also fairly low paid. Am trying to think of the up side but csn't! Why don't you start z blog and see how you get on on terms of getting followers. If you succeed you can make decent money from advertising and a name for yourself that way.

Thank you, dummad. Are you a journalist and if so what type of work are you doing at the minute?
