Working tax credit

I have searched the message boards and found a conversation from 2001.But I would be really interested in up to date figures. I am on mat leave at present -Ds is 12 weeks dd is 4yr9mnths.
I am not sure if I want to be SAHM or not( for a while at least ) and have roughly calculated that childcare costs for 2 will take about 80% of my salary (part-time).
Can anyone give me any info ?Dh is s/e and at present his salary has dropped to about 16k.

colette, this Inland Revenue page has a "Do I qualify?" bit where you put in your figures. HTH.

Hi colette - just a word or warning about the 'Do I qualify' thing on the IR site. I put in the actual figures that the IR had stated on my award notice and did not get the same amount as they were awarding me.

Yesterday I got a letter from them dated 12/9/03, providing an 'explanation' for my first award. This was based (their calculations) upon me paying £1500 per week for after-school care. Only the best for my child This has since been amended sadly.

I mean a different benefit - It brings your income up to a set minimum . I can't remember what it is called . Can anyone enlighten me.

colette, my (usually) depleted brain just came up with Family Income Supplement, is it something like that that you mean? Or Income Support or Family Credit or something?

Ask your CAB maybe? Have been googling but can't find a single helpful site!

I think what colette is after is a payment from DHSS - is that still its name? - rather than an Inland Revenue tax credit (if I understand her second post correctly).

jahn, yes I think it is a payment from the dss as I am sure I saw a poster about it outside a jobcentre.
I know it sounds daft but I have put off going in to ask about it as I find jobcentres really depressing places.

colette, I found it, hooray! It's the Dept for Work & Pensions now (DWP) (why do the buggers keep changing the names?) and this page has benefits for families and children.
