My ds 12 and his friend are both g&t for science and was invited to apply for the cambridge university science summer course. There was also another one for young entrepreneurs in Hatfield.

Unfortunately both of them were week courses and meant a lot of travelling every day. DS's friend applied for the cambridge one and has been accepted and I think they are staying up there for the week.

What type of course is it, do you know?

My daughter did the same thing last summer - but got a bit bored with it to be honest - she doesn't see why she should have to go to school for an extra week because she's clever......so has declined her place this year - I feel she has a point to be honest!

DS1 has been offered a place at a two day science course for g&t at Imperial College in London. We will probably travel up each day and take the other two boys off to do something interesting cultural. There's no way I'm sending a 14yo with zero common sense (despite his g&t status) to London for two days by himself.

thanks for the replies, yes celia i was having problems they offered him a place at rutlish but one of the boys who bullied him is going there and i dont want him worrying all summer(even though he could probably deal with only one of them but not the four)he has a place at st marks academy in sept to be honest as long as he has lots of friends i will be happy.as we had him off school for 8 months due to illness, depression, and being bullied but hes much happier gone off to play golf today, and yes my ds cant see y he should go to school in summer but it does sound like fun and if hes bored i will ring in and say he is.wisteria my son doesnt think hes clever as he was told at his old school so much he was stupid he believed it.he did no work at all for half of yr 5 and half of yr 6.

Sounds like she's bigheaded, she's not though - she just didn't really seem to get anything out of it last year so wasn't prepared to forfeit a week of her holidays this year.......
