Whilst I am so very proud of him, I am not sure what, if anything, I should be doing with/ for him.

He is 9, just moved to middle school. When at first school he was doing maths 2 years ahead. Science wasn't covered much, but his y4 teacher saw he was talented in this subject and tried to do more with him.

He has always been interested in general knowledge, chose to read encyclopaedias over books, could read at 3.

Sorry, don't want to come across as boasting, but I'm hoping to get some help with what to do and how to encourage this more.

Have a word with his school and see if they do any science or maths clubs after school.

They do have those, but only from y7, he is only y5.

well, if school have written to you and told you this, go and ask them what the hell should you be doing with the information... and what they suggest. put the onus back on them to explain.

If he is recognised as G&T they should allow him to be part of the after school clubs in these subjects. It's worth an ask..?

Thank you both. Will ask if he can join clubs.

With wildlife watch (kids' arm of wildlife trust) DS has dissected owl pelletts for bones of small mammals & handled an owl, gone fossil hunting, tested water samples, surveyed water voles, learnt a lot about habitats etc. Meets monthly.

If you can get him up to the kids science festival in Edinburgh at Easter it's fab.

DS2 is also G&T in Science and Maths. Both were identified in Y3. The school have been wonderful; he has been doing KS3 work for a couple if years now so he has a secondary maths teacher who comes in once a week and one of the TAs used to be a secondary science teacher so she does an hour a week with him.

Outside school, the local librarians are really helpful with finding suitable books. A friend subscribes to National Geographic and passes the copies on to us. There are some good documentaries on television which we record for him to watch. He has now asked us to find him a local astronomy club.
