What Else Is In Calpol/Tylenol?

Is it just the paracetamol? DS is having a rough time teething (8 since February) and only settles to sleep if we give him Tylenol. I've been refusing to give him ANY during the day, but DH (a dcotor) reckons I'm being a bit cruel. His naps are awful so we've just given him Tylenol and he presto - he's been asleep for over an hour.

I have a friend who is a paediatrician back in the UK and he reckons there's somehting in the formulation other than paracetamol. He says his kids calm down even when he just waves the little pink sachet of Calpol in front of them

Just think though, if you are in pain for hours, then someone gives you a painkiller, the first thing you are going to want to do is sleep.

Why do you refuse to give him the Tylenol?

He has been having infant Ibuprofen every night for 2 weeks, with Tylenol as a top up. I hear so many stories about babies being practically fed on Tylenol/Calpol that I'm terrirfied of over-doing it. DS can be whingy at the best of times so it can be a bit difficult deciphering whther he's in pain/hungry/ just being whingy.

Gosh, I do come across as Victorian mum

All of the other ingredianets are bulking agents, colours, preservatives and flavoring agents. there is nothing else 'active'
