Bad news re wrist injury at hosp today :(

I am absolutely devastated I don't know where to start. Injured my wrist in May, details here Had many follow up appointments and xrays - all said no sign of break but come back again to make sure. A few weeks ago had bad tingling in fingers, was decided I had been usuing it too much and was getting a carpal tunnel like problem due to swelling from ligaments. (Had been told I could use it a bit more)

Roll on to today where I had my first specialist appointment, I was expecting to be told it was fine, maybe a wee bit of physio needed but nothing major - pain is much much less and have full range of movement. Had xrays - no break visable - good. But he said ligament looks damaged - he showed me the xray and you can see a space in between the bones and he says its much bigger than it should be.

He says he wants to do a telescope investigation under general anesthetic and then 2 weeks later another operation to stitch the ligament together and then in plaster for a few weeks I went in today expecting it all to be fine and now am so stressed.

This week is the last week of my job and next week I am starting a new temp one, its very physical and I won't be able to do it. But I dont have a contract...I am so fucked!!! I have no idea what to do now. I am still unsure if an MRI before the op would be an idea, Dr mentioned it then dismissed it as it "might not give a clear picture"

I have had all my pre op stuff done today by the nurse, including an ecg as I was tacchy. Its just all going so fast!!

I havent eaten since 9am and am not hungry at all. Am so stressed

OMG - I'm not surprised you're stressed!

Can't offer any specific help but just wanted to acknowledge your post and say how sorry I am for you.

Oh Giraffe, poor you

esp when you expected to be told all was fine and to be on your merry way!

Re work - can you find a non-physical temp job instead?
if you're going to be off for at least 4 weeks, is it worth signing on?

How long do you have to wait to hear the next step?

(tea) & (hug)

Nightmare giraffes. If the MRI is on the NHS you might as well get one?? I am not a medical person but surely the more information you have the better.

Will you get some disability allowance?

Thanks. Sadly can't find another job as am going to be taken in for op soon anyway so would only be in job for a couple of weeks. Am going to have to sign on for some sickness benefits. Need to wait for a letter, not sure how long that will take.

I have an overwhelming need to discuss the situation at great length with anyone who will listen! I suspect I am rather irritating!

keep talking.

I have done lots, (probably too much) abot my leg, and everyone has been wonderful at putting up with me

((not implying that you need 'putting up with' BTW, just saying that they did with me!))
