This is a bit long but please bear with it as I would value your input.

Ds is 7 months old. Always done a lot of possiting (often 3/4 changes of clothes per day as smells of sour milk otherwise). Was breastfed until 5 mths, now formula fed.

Lately he has been doing quite a bit of vomiting of whole feeds of milk - but erratically and not every time. Here is the recent history:

*Friday at 10.00 am in gym creche - vomited up whole feed. However, I had been in a rush when I left him there and forgot to tell staff he'd had an 8.30 bottle, so perhaps no wonder he threw up when they tried to give him another big bottle just over an hour after his last one?

*Rest of Friday he was mostly fine. However he unexpectedly chucked up his tea at 17.30. He was right as rain and happy as Larry before and after though...(and actually he wasn't that peturbed during being sick)

*Saturday and Sunday: ds his normal self. Just a bit off his food (but he is teething at the moment)

*Monday - drank 3 of his 4 bottles okay and uneventfully, still off food, and for the first time a bit irritable. Wanted lots more cuddles and reassurance than usual. Brought up whole feed at 19.30 (his 4th and last 'bed time' bottle), but settled happily down to sleep afterwards.

*Tuesday - woke up early and had bottle - threw the lot up. Generally was quite a happy boy throughout the day. Ate a bit more....but again was sick after his bed time bottle (after keeping 2 day time bottles down okay)

*Wednesday am - work uncharacteristically early at 04.15. Had a bottle. Went back to sleep, woke again at 06.00 and threw up one third of it. Seems happy in himself again.

So, if it was a virus wouldn't he be sick most of the time rather than on and off. And wouldn't he be miserable / listless?

However, reflux is meant to start only a few weeks after birth isn't it, rather than a few months?

Don't know what to think.....

Don't know if this is relevent, but when he is sick its a kind of effortless affair where it gurgles up like some sort of hot spring or geyser! Whereas when dd is sick with a virus she heaves and retches and finds the whole process quite disturbing.

annoying but as long as he seems well in himself in between the puking I don't think I'd worry about it unduly ..

it probably is a little tummy bug or connected to teething

Agree ?if otherwise well and he?s not doing it all the time wouldn?t worry too much.
Is he maybe guzzling milk and overfilling his tummy? Have you changed his formula at all recently?

DS had reflux as a baby (started at 6 weeks and finsihed at 4 months) but I think one of the main symptoms of reflux is the screaming in pain after having brought up feed - burning of the osophegus (spelling?!) as it comes back up - arched back, drawing legs up and screaming for up to an hour after a feed.

Do you think he could have an allergy to the formula?

Thanks all,

Ummm - difficult to say isn't it....Ialthough maybe not reflux as no obvious pain involved. Guess I should give it another couple of days and see what happens. I suppose I can take some solace that it is not every milk feed, so at least he is getting some fluids

I really feel for you - having been used to sicky baby myself - apart from being vile to clear up all the time, it's really upsetting too and you worry they are not getting enough nutrients or fluid. If ever I was the slightest bit concerned about anything not 'usual' with my ds I would phone NHS direct or the HV....maybe worth a shot, just to put your mind at rest.
Good luck

I would really get this checked out by 1) your doc 2) a naturopath (try www.gni-international.org) or homeopath (try www.homeopathy-soh.org) to get this sorted out - it could be a milk intolerance, reflux, fermentation of the gut etc etc - it is amazing how being sick doesn't bother them till they get a bit older!
