Ah, this is miserable. Little baby Josh has caught the cold I had a week ago (and which transferred to my older son, Tom).

He's all snorty and snotty and has a pathetic, hoarse cry. Little bit sickier than usual, too - for obvious, icky, reasons.

We're raising his cot up a bit so he's on a bit of a slope and the health visitor said we can give him a bit of Calpol, but he doesn't have a temperature.

Anyone been through this one? Any tips?

Cheers.

have you tried a nasal aspirator? you can get them from chemist and they suck the snot out - a sort of rubber bulb shape with nozzle. you have to be very quick and accurate though as i've found it difficult but still worth the effort. another thing is i put some olbas oil soaked on a tissue and stick it behind the radiator.
hugs and hope it clears soon xx

just thought - if you do get the nasal aspirator, give it a good squeeze and hold the squeeze until you put it up his nose, that way you get maximum snot out in one go!

My poor DD2 had 3 colds with hacking coughs in the first 2 months of her wee tiny life. It is a most miserable thing. We had hours of night time coughing where the only thing that worked was letting her sleep on me whilst I sat upright.

I would also put her rocker chair thing into the cot by the bed, so that she would sleep snuggly sitting in a more upright position. This often worked once the coughing fits were done...

Calpol can help them sleep. As long as it's half a dose at this young age. Check with your GP first though.

Nasal aspirators are excellent. Babies hate them though - but it's so satisfying. Esp. if they can't feed properly as a result of all that snot!

Sickboy, my ds had a cold at 4 weeks too. He was so bunged up one night I had to put mouth over his little nose and suck out the snot. He was so happy afterwards.
You can also be prescribed saline drops to make them sneeze and clear the nose.
Hope he gets well soon.
