The latest treatment for rosacea, which seems to work, is IPL (intense pulsed light) treatment - similar to laser but not the same. I know some Harley St practitioners who use it if your friend is interested.

Two doctors she might consider seeing privately are Dr Patrick Bowler (a dermatologist and nice man) or Dr Hilary Allen - both offer IPL.

Is that the one that looks a little like ringworm. If so, I got it in my early 20's and basically there is no cure, just rest and sunshine if you can get it. In my case it was brought on by overwork and exhaustion and it did go away after a few months of rest and lots of sleep.

There is a strong belief at the moment that rosacea is caused by cack of hydrocloric acid in stomach. Most people improve when they start taking Betaine HCL. she can get it from a good health store

IPL is available on the NHS - but also in beauty salons from about £100 a go. One go should be enough to give her an idea of how it might work for her. I am currently doing a trial of it for hair removal at a clinic in WC1 and am very impressed with it and could pass on the address if she was interested. I have had it to remove small red veins around the nose (I get a similar condition myself) and it worked amazingly and instantly. And no, I'm not on commission.

My dh gets it on his face. Lack of sleep, alcohol and too much sun all seem to make it worse. The GP prescribes something called metrotop (on the NHS). It flares up now and then and the metrotop - kind of gel - seems to calm it down again for a while. He saw a dermatologist about it, who recommended this treatment. He said that you don't really get rid of it but can keep it under control this way. HTH!
