Chronic plantar fasciitis and thyroid link?

I've just started Armour thyroid after Hashimotos diagnosis. Have spent the last few months on various supplements to help with associated symptoms (vit d, magnesium, adrenal support etc)

Had chronic PF now for 2 years and pursued every treatment available (stretching, icing, orthotics, bio mechanical assessment, acupuncture, 3x steroid jabs under guided ultra sound, obsessive with shoe choice, I am on massive doses of anti- inflams and topped up with codeine as and when, gluten free) Nothing has given me any more than short term relief. I have other joint pain too but have had extensive rheumatology checks and nothing picked up.

I guess my question is whether this is a link to thyroid or am I just 'blaming' everything on this? My DS2 has just been diagnosed with another autoimmune disease, and he is complaining of foot pain too so I wondered on the link?

Its ridiculous how much this is affecting my life, it has really disabled me, I literally hobble and shuffle about like a 90 year old and I'm only early 40's. Feel so down about it today Sad sorry for the indulgent rant.

Sorry no advice but I too have been wondering this! I have had really bad PF for over two years, not had any injections as gp wasn't keen. I'm currently going through thyroid problems with possible hashi's and have loads of vitamin deficiencies. I'm 37 and feel like an old women too. I'm back at gp next week so will query it but will prob just be dismissed with a blank stare!

ELR So sorry to hear this. It's really miserable isn't it? I've gone through every specialist I can (mostly private as GP was no help) I am sure there is an answer somewhere but I'm losing hope in trying to find it Angry

I'm really sorry to hear this. I had pf and it is awful- completely disabling. For me the only think that worked was this www.return2fitness.co.uk/foot-care-insoles/plantar-fasciitis/adjustable-plastic-slant-board-calf-stretcher. The other stretches had no effect. It was recommended by someone on a board here.
Have you tried laser treatment yet? In my search for help online other people seem to have had success with it.

Yes, there is a well-documented link with Hashis. If you have just started treatment, you may need to be patient, but the received wisdom is that it will improve when you reach your optimum dose.

My experience of treatment with thyroxine was that all sorts of things I did not realise were related fixed themselves in the first year.

Yes, I've read about this link - and experienced it. I had dreadful foot pain amongst other pain when hypothyroid. I later identified it as PF and it went when I was on higher dose of thyroxine. I have had bouts of PF since but nowhere as bad as before. I've found the GPS general ignorant of this link.

tobias Yes I've used one of those calf stretchers and find it really irritates my achilles. Not done lazer treatment yet so will have a google.

rockin & basket that's encouraging to hear. I'm trying to hang onto any hope at the moment!

I've got PF and Graves' disease which is an autoimmune thyroid disorder. I'm also coeliac which has links with graves! So it's possible they all have some kind of link.

Sadly no answer though on how to get rid of PF. Mine's bad in the morning but eases up throughout the day. I've had a gait analysis and go over a lot on my bad PF foot so have got some corrective trainers and some insoles - hoping they start to help.

Rockin do you by any chance have a link to that? Want to go armed with as much info as possible.

Thanks for all your input.

I don't know what else to do with this. I can't weight bear at all on my right foot today and it is all day, from the moment I wake up to when I go to sleep. I'm hopping about on my left foot which also suffers so I know sooner or later they are going to be equally as bad. My achilles are throbbing too.
I have seen an orthopedic surgeon who was dismissive and said really if the shots don't work there is nothing else she can offer.

In my darkest hours I think about chopping them off, it is such a relentless pain Sad

If you Google plantar fasciitis and hypothyroidism you should find more than enough information.
