Hi,

I was planning to go to the doctors next week but finding it hard to get someone to watch my toddler. Thought I would ask the wise MN to see whether I should go or not anyway.

Here is a list of what's troubling me :

Hair loss, not patchy, just thinning hair, loads comes out when I brush or wash.

Sore spots and scabs on my scalp, mostly on the top

Sharp stabbing pains where I imagine my intestines to be, not all the time, just two to three times a week. They last about 30 seconds but are really painful.

I am always tired

I seem to have one day in between periods where I bleed slightly

Bloating, usually accompanied by (TMI) mucus like discharge. Again not all the time just a few days here and there every month

Palpitations

God sorry I sound like hypochondriac! It was all happening for about 6 months before I fell pregnant. During my pregnancy all my symptoms went away but now they are all back again. My DS is two now and everything started up about two months ago.

Something or nothing? I hate going to the GP so would rather not if it isn't that serious.

Sorry this is long! Thanks for reading.

Do you think there's something wrong with you?

Yes - seek RL medical advice

No - stop worrying about every little twinge

And I mean that nicely.

I was just concerned that I would be wasting their time.

Given what you describe if it was me I'd be at GP.

However you seem to have a lot of seemingly unrelated symptoms so by all means mention them all but bear in mind one appointment is a finite amount of time so I'd go in having decided already which one or two areas are most important to you and you'd like the GP to focus on in this appointment.

Good luck.

Wasting their time? No, they are paid to look after you health.
The doctor will probably suggest a blood test, to help with a diagnosis.
No point in speculating before then.
But if pregnancy "cures" your symptoms, there's your solution Wink

Maybe not unrelated, Dame
Perhaps you could write down the various symptoms, so the GP can quickly spot any pattern?

Is the hair on your head actually getting thinner? We all lose lots of hair every day - you'd be surprised how much. Are you sure you haven't just noticed this?

No its quite a lot of hair loss with noticeably thinning hair. I think it focus on that with the GP as it is definitely the most consistent symptom iyswim

Have you had your iron tested lately?

Report
ThisFenceIsComfy · 20/08/2014 22:53

I had iron tested when pregnant and it was low but that's normal I think for pregnancy.

The hair /scalp thing could be psoriasis? I get it but disappeared each time I was pregnant (apparently when PG you produce natural anti inflammatories or something)

Hair loss may be post pregnancy, it's not uncommon and for some women their hair/scalp is never same again.

All of these things may be something or nothing but you need to see gp to check them out.

Possibly iron deficiency, vit d deficiency, under active thyroid. These are all easily investigated and corrected.

Palpitations, how much caffeine are you drinking? Or choc consumption? Could these things be a factor?

For the bowel type twinges, bloating/ why not keep a diary til you see gp, to see if any food stands out, maybe you have a mild intolerance to something

I'm only 31 so hoping not peri-menopausal.

I drink about 3 cups of caffeine a day

I think the food diary is a good idea, thanks
