SHIT! Think this is a migraine halo - how can I stop it?

At work and can't see properly out of my right eye. Pretty sure it's a migraine halo - had it happen to me once before years ago. Worried in case it develops as I'm at work and drove in!

Can I do anything to nip it in the bud??

Take pain killers NOW and cross your fingers.
Hope it goes away.

Also drink lots as that might help.

Yes you need to take painkillers now paracetomol and codeine preferably

Painkillers (and go home if you can do so safely).

Take ibuprofen then go straight home and lie down in a dark room

Do you mean like a visual migraine ?
I get those, they usually after 20-30 mins.

If needs be can you leave your car at work ?

when I get this I have about an hours break between when the visual thing is gone and vision is perfect and the headache and vomiting start so maybe the visual thing will stop so you can drive home.

I get this, I wouldn't risk driving home if you haven't had enough experience with them to know how long your 'safe' period is, can you take public transport? I now know I can drive home once the halo has gone and before the other symptoms start but I only get about 20-30 mins (luckily I live close to work), but I wouldn't have tried it when they first started. But yes, painkillers and darkened room. Good luck ...

I get a gap as well...painkillers and a dim room is the only thing that can starve off the puking if not the headache for me. Getting straight away into a dim room can sometimes stop it at the halo. Or even sitting in the quiet with eyes shut for an hour.

It might be worth taking a note of how long your gaps are though for the future.

Go now - get home before it gets any worse, and while you are confident to drive safely.

Did you get home safe OP? Next time have a couple of pink migraleve and a can of full fat coke as soon as the halo starts. I always have this with me just in case. Won't stop the vision disturbances but might help the headache and sickness. Hope you're ok.
I usually get disorientated with mine so it would have to be a taxi as soon as the aura is over and the headache begins.

Hiya, yes I did get home ok thanks. Made a good decision to leave work as my head was definitely sorer when I got home & I was feeling more spaced out.

Went straight to blackout-curtained bedroom and took one of DH's Naramig pills which I think is what did the trick. Been in bedroom since and head now feels a lot better. So grateful it didn't turn into a full blown episode as I can't stand being sick!!

Thanks for all your advice everyone. I thankfully don't suffer migraines very often at all but good to know now what to do to nip it in the bud.

Glad you're ok.

Naramig is prescription only. Best to see your GP, check whether it is suitable for you & if so get your own prescription. It's not a first-line treatment, the GP will probably recommend other things you could try first.

Sympathies, I'm on Day 3 of a real stinker Sad

You need a prescription of your own Naramig (or another triptan) to have with you to take asap if it happens again.

If you have migraine with aura you also shouldn't take the combined contraceptive pill - so if you do you need to see your GP to change it.
