I had this many years ago. DH was told that I only had a few hours to live, but the medical staff were brilliant and (obviously) I survived.

I really hope your Mum turns the corner - best wishes to you.

Not sure if it is the same thing, but my dad had a severe staphylococcal infection following a sinus operation. He was confused, hallucinating, his liver and kidneys were failing. 6 months in hospital and on a antibiotic drip and, at one point it was thought his feet would have to be amputated as the infection got into the bone. However, his heart is strong and more importantly, he is not diabetic, this is what saved him and he is now fit and well. (as well as he can be for a 75 year old!) Hoping that gives you some hope

My mum had it and beat it. She was in end stages of pancreatic cancer, and somehow the antibiotics worked and she fought it.
She lived for about 5 more weeks after that until the cancer took over.
If she managed to beat it, with a ravaged immune system etc, then I hope your mum can too.

My parents had a friend about 10 years or more ago had severe sepsis and was ventilated and dialysed and in hospital for a couple of months. He is still alive and in fairly good health having outlived his wife. He is about 80 now. It is serious and I am sorry you are going through this but some do get through and hope your mum is one.

Hope your mam is improving. My dad had this when I was a toddler so 30 years ago. He had part of his hand amputated but survived and is still going now in his mid 70s

I survived too. I was really ill with sepsis and had first stage liver failure too.

It took me 6 months in total to fully recover (including liver function). I didn't eat for 6 weeks either so I had physio and had to build up my strength.

But I did recover fully with no after effects. I hope your Mam is improving and receiving good care.

I had septicemia about 18 months ago. I went into septic shock and was pretty poorly. I was in HDU for about 24 hours but once the antibiotics kicked in I started to feel better really quickly. I was in hospital for 5 weeks, but I'm really well now.

Thinking of you and your mum. Hope you get good news soon Thanks

Just back from hospital Saw some improvements tonight
She'd managed part of the day with no bp support but went back on it later
Sedative also lower she kept trying to open her eyes
Oxygen 40% but pressures down a bit

They keep reminding us she's still critically ill but there is definitely hope

Hi treadingwater, my daughter is a septicaemia survivor against the odds. She was 19 months old at the time and had a rough ride but is now doing well. The PICU fought hard to get her blood pressure stabilised for a few days and she needed help with her kidneys and had a problem with her foot, but to meet her today no-one would guess the hell she went through. She starts school this year!

I hope your mum makes a continued improvement and comes through this well at the other end. Please feel free to inbox me if you think I can help at all.
