NHS 111 told me to go to a walk in centre 15 minutes walk away, but I will probably have an 'accident' before I get there...

Think I have gastro. Been coming out both ends for the last two days, feel like death and have a fever of 40C. Rang the 111 number who said I need to see someone in the next 2 hours, and told me to go the nearest walk in centre. Unfortunately at the moment I can't get through 10 minutes without needing the loo, and I think the walk there would kill me anyway.

What am I supposed to do?!

Call them back and tell them you're unable to get there. I was told to the closest one, 30 mins away, when I was vomiting and unable to move. They called me back and I spoke to one of the nurses.

Nope. I stayed at home as it was labyrinthitis and waited for it to pass (whilst taking antihistamines and travel sickness medicine, which was the advice from the nurse).

Are you managing to keep anything down at all? It helps to have small sips but often rather than huge drinks. If you've not been for a wee for a while then it's probably wise to get some help as you're probably very dehydrated by now

Oh dear. No I haven't been able to keep even water to take paracetamol down. Thanks for your advice!

why do you need to see someone? they will tell you to stay in bed, drink waer and wait tll it passes. there is nothing you can do for it. antibiotics dont help.
why do you want to spread it to other people which is what you will do if you go somewhere with other potentially sick people.

have you tried your GP surgery? they should be able to do a home visit...if nothing else, they could give you an injection to control the vomiting, something to "block you up", and assess your state of hydration...

It's OK. Water is absorbed quite quickly so you may be taking some in, hence little bits and often. Do you have any dirolyte? Water's OK but this is better. A good judge of being dehydrated is whether you're weeing, whether your tongue is dry and whether your skin bounces back quickly if you pull it. You're probably better off calling an ambulance to be honest. You could do with being assessed for dehydration and could probably benefit from being on a drip. They can take some cultures from your poop to see if it's food poisoning and give you something to lower your temperature.

Because Reality, I can't keep any water down. My GP surgery are as useful as ever and won't give me an appointment until Friday, and the HCP I've spoken to have told me I need to see someone.

PLEASE don't take anything to 'block you up'. If you have food poisoning it will make you feel ten times worse. Your body's trying to get rid of the bugs for a reason so the last thing you want to do is keep them in! Just keep getting fluids in. Little bits and often, even if it's sips. If there's no one who can come and look after you then you should find a way to get to the hospital (ambulance).

Have you tried drinking sips of a flat fizzy drink? Or water with a pinch of salt and sugar in? Both are better for dehydration and easier to keep down than plain water.

You know they charge you a cleaning fee if you throw up? Tell them in advance that you're unwell and take a lot of bags.

I really don't think you should go to the walk in centre. Sounds like A&E is better to be honest. There's nothing that a walk in centre can do to help and they can't stick you on a drip if you're dehydrated.

I agree, it's not realistic to expect you to get to a walk-in centre in that state. Call them back and make it clear just how unable you are to leave the safety of a loo.

Ice lollies are excellent as you won't vomit it up. Dioralyte also as it replaces everything you are losing.

I have to agree with something like norovirus you have to try and stay away from a hospital as much as you can as it spreads.
