Don't know what is causing this. Past few weeks am getting horrible spots on my jaw line, neck and back. Have bought some supplements and drink tons of water and eat pretty well. I am 48 and am diabetic other than that I pretty healthy. Any suggestions why. Bloody hell have more spots that my 13 yr old DS

Poor you!

I have had spots myself since I was 13, and I am 40 now. Two things that really made a huge difference, but didn't cure it: The oil cleansing method + finish off with coconut oil as moisturiser + diet - I eat no grains any more, and when I do, I get a huge spot.

I am not saying that it will help you because it helped me, but it is definitely worth exploring. I suggest you don't see your GP; as he is likely to put you on antibiotics, and that is just over the top for spots and unlikely to help.

I do truly believe that spots are caused by hormones and diet. Hormones are - among other things - affected by diet.

On the hormone side, are you experiencing signs of the menopause yet? This could be related to the spots.

Unlike the poster above, I suggest you do see your gp. I have had a couple of courses of antibiotics and they make a huge difference to skin and how you feel about yourself. Currently I am using a topical cream acnecid , which contains benzoyl perioxide twice a day and it seems to be working for now, but acne in my forties depresses me!

Thanks don't think menopause yet. I always clean my skin and take makeup off. Feel very stressed at the moment maybe that is a cause?

Stress is also a factor for me, I get breakouts when I am over worked ;)

Thing is, stress affects your hormones. At 48 even if you haven't noticed it, your hormones probably are altered and peri menopausal.

Anyway, a friend recently took her teenage son for a course of white light treatment (privately, cost about £100) and it worked! Quite bad acne dramatically improved.

I suffer exactly the same pattern of spots as you at times with horrid lumps under the skin. If it gets bad again I'm off for the white light.

My skin has really improved since I got a clarisonic brush-I ummed and ahed about getting one for ages because it is expensive but I used to get bad break outs and haven't had one for ages.

Do you use conditioner on your hair? It coats skin (blocking pores) as well as hair so when you rinse it off your hair in the shower you are leaving a layer on your skin. Switch back if you have changed conditioners and/or clip hair up after rinsing and THEN wash face & back etc with cleanser/shower gel (not just water)
