Any reason at all my gp wouldn't tell me if I were pregnant?

Went to the doctors on Monday suffering with Gastroenteritis, due to family medical history was asked to go straight there for a once over.
After discussing my symptoms my GP was really pushing for me to do a pregnancy test, despite having already told her my last period had ended 2 weeks previously. I declined (mainly because I just wanted to get out of there and back to the safety of my own bed and bathroom!) but she made me promise to do a home test and mentioned this again in a follow up call the same day.

I gave her a urine sample that day to check for any kidney damage (backache) and called back this morning for results, receptionist just said everything normal and no follow up needed.

I intend to do my own test at the weekend to put my mind at ease but is there any reason they wouldn't have mentioned this over the phone?

I think that it is very unlikely that a GP would deliberately withhold information about a pregnancy. Quite often GP receptionists are not allowed to give out test results by phone, but they normally book an appointment for the patient if this is the case.

Of course, if you are still concerned then take a home test.

That's what I thought, but couldn't understand why she was so insistent on me doing a test when there isn't really a possibility.

And I had spoken to gp herself several times on Monday with her checking up on me (she's the best!) so maybe receptionist thought I already knew?..

I don't know, can you tell I'd be over the bloody moon?? Grin

I would doubt she would have run a pregnancy test without telling you

Your GP shouldn't do a pregnancy test without your consent. The likelihood is they dip-sticked your urine to see if there was anything in it but did not do a pregnancy test.

Doesn't sound like she would have done a pregnancy one tho.

Oh I see, I thought they would just screen it for everything.

I know she did a dipstick because she called me to tell me it contained blood and protein, it was sent away for further tests.

Not only should it not be done without your consent but you also declined, they won't have done it.

YY to not being able to do a pregnancy test without your consent (as long as you are competent to consent and not unconscious).
