Just wondering if you have a wonder healthy snack which is on a par with chocolate???

I was just wondering, as I reached for my second kitkat of the day, does anyone have a wonder snack, one which tastes as good as say a chocolate bar or bag of crisps which doesn't leave you feeling full of guilty calories?

Something which would be perfect for you just to grab whilst DD is on a mission to not go to sleep or be put down, so you really don't have the energy or enthusiasm to make something? Please don't say a piece of fruit or a yoghurt, whilst these are great they really don't scratch that 'indulgence itch'

I'm not sure it's really on a par, but I keep a vat of homemade soup. Can warm mug full up in the microwave in seconds.

Hot soup is comfort food like chocolate...kind of?

Chocolate covered rice cakes satisfy my sweet chocolate cravings and they are not very high in calories. Also, a curly wurly as they take ages to chew and are not as bad in calories as a regular bar of chocolate.

Propercorn popcorn.
It's so nice. A big bag is about 79p and its under 100 cals.
I love the sweet/salty one.

I think old classics can help here - rich tea dunked in tea mmmm I like a fig roll or three too

Celery dipped in caramelised onion humus. I've a vague idea that humus is fatty but I think the celery balances that out nicely and it's lush.

I'm currently having savoury flavoured almonds - sea salt or BBQ flavour as replacements for crisps as I'm on a low carb diet. Only allowed a few but they do nick that craving.

I bought sugar free sweets once online and gave myself a horrid tummy ache.

Sugar-free jelly is quite good though. I have these instead of desserts. Think they are 10 cals .

A teaspoon of crunchy peanut butter is great. It takes a long time to chew so its pretty satisfying.

Also agree with homemade soup. I make a pan of veg soup and have a small bowl full does really well as a snack.

If you freeze chocolate buttons in small handful sizes when you really feel like chocolate you can have some and it takes ages and ages to eat because it's frozen. Can't articulate what I'm trying to say properly but you get my drift?

I love dates. I know, they are fruit, but soooo sugary and sooo delicious!

snice - what temperature oven and for how long? - they sound nice Smile

How calorific is liquorice? would that be a good substitute?

If you like chocolate though, I would have just one square of really good dark chocolate a day - supposed to be good for you anyway, so you don't have to feel guilty Grin

Dried mando is great, personally I love crackers and cheese (but rack up the calories with them)

oh and I agree with some of the comments on the recipe that you need to slice them a bit thicker than they suggest and v.lightly grease the baking paper or they stick and burn
