Stomach problems - intolerance?

Helllo. For the last couple of months, I've had some digestive problems. Basically every morning when I wake up I have to dash to the loo, and without giving TMI, start my day explosively and I usually have a couple of other emergency dashes to the loo during the day too. Occasional cramps in my stomach, and quite flatulent too. My diet has not changed during this time. Does it sound like signs of an intolerance to something? Grateful for any thoughts.

Sorry to hear your bowel is revolting on you.
Have you lost weight ?

Could be an infection.

Could be gluten intolerance (coeliac disease).

Could be something else (lots of things).

Best to see your GP.

Yup GP territory - need to rule out health problems that can affect your bowel. They should start with blood tests and go from there. Fwiw I had similar symptoms and after investigations I got an IBS diagnosis but keeping a food diary highlighted a sensitivity to wheat. However it's really important you don't cut anything put until you've seen your GP because cutting certain foods out can affect test results. It's worth doing a food/symptom diary to take to your GP to see if there is a link between foods and symptoms.

Could be a lot of things.

But that's me after having milk.

I don't drink milk, I don't like milk but one of my friends comes round, we do a roast between us and he makes great Yorkshire puddings.

We are going to try them with soya milk.

Thanks for your thoughts - good point about not cutting anything out till I've seen my GP, I had been toying with the idea of cutting out bread and seeing what happened, but it could just as easily be dairy or anything else...

No, no weight loss so far...

I lost weight when I cut out gluten for two reasons - one, I stopped craving it and high sugar carbs so decreased my intake, two, I want so bloated!

If you've got coeliac (DH has it), you may put on weight after cutting out gluten. The disease can stop absorption of a lot of stuff so when things start working properly again it can cause weight gain. Second not cutting stuff out. Ask your GP for the blood test for coeliac as a lot of people are incorrectly diagnosed with ibs who have coeliac (including Dr Chris Steele (TV doc) he was the spokesperson for the coeliac society and thought he had ibs for years when in fact it was actually coeliac!). If you are correctly diagnosed with coeliac (by a gp) you may be able to get some gluten free food on prescription.

Defo blood tests and keep a food diary. Since a bout of sickness in December, I've been on a low milk ( not bothered by cheese or yogurt) and gluten free diet (with a few hiccups). Diarrhoea gone and bloating ALOT better. Very few tummy cramps. Also cut rit down on tea and drinking decaf green tea now. I have had the occasional bout of diarrhoea when I've had too much milk, so I think that is the culprit wi me. Also lost a few pounds but that wasn't the goal with me.

Have you been on antibiotics at all, recently?

I have ibs it sounds a bit like that ... this is tmi but do you have mucus in your stools or afterwards?

Hi, no, not been on antibiotics, and no mucous as far as I cna see. I went to the GP who took bloods (clear) and referred me to gastroenterologist. Had tests for infection and IBS (I think) - both negative, so I need to put a sample in to look for IBD (I think).

Symptoms have calmed down a bit but still get a bad day from time to time.

Thank s for you suggestions. I think I am starting to notice a bit a link to wheat- y things - will keep an eye on it
