Oesophagal ulcer -- any advice?

After weeks/months of discomfort and 'lump in throat' feeling, DH has just been diagnosed with an oesophagal ulcer.

And he's googled. And says the news isn't good, as apparently they are unusual, hard to treat, unlikely to be sorted by the meds he's been prescribed (Omeprazole and Ranitidine), and can be a precursor to cancer.

He's feeling pretty low all over anyhow -- lots of aches and pains, prone to depression.

So does anyone have any experience, advice or better news for him?

Hi lance, I posted a couple of days ago but it's not sent !
What I said was that I have been told I have one too, after having a gastroctopy when I was greedy eating the roast beef I was carving a couple of yrs ago, it got stuck, long story, but they detected it then, was given a course if tablets, that to be honest I didn't take, drs artiste was very laid back, said they were quite common and nothing to worry about.
I have had no call back or letters sent and it's been 2 yrs, I am very careful swallowing food these days, and I get heartburn quite a lot, not sure if that has anything to do with it. But until I read your post I never gave the ulcer another thought.

Hi Twosugars,
Thanks -- now that's the kind of antidote he needs to the scare stories he's been finding!

i guess 'not much happened' doesn't tend to make it to the Internet.

Hmm, I was wondering about the artiste. Conjures up interesting images.

I don't feel I have a lump of any kind just consciously aware I have one so I am careful, with fatty foods, acidification types, that would trigger heartburn and small bites, again that is just fear of getting food stuck again, god forbid ( most horrendous thing I've been through and have 4 dc's. ! ) going through that again, they had to push the chunk of beef I struggled to chomp on down into my stomach, I wasn't choking It just lodged itself into my oesophagas, that's how they found it with the lengthy camera.
But it doesn't bother me at all, I may look it up, will I scare myself ? Dh going for biopsy for a lump on his thyroid my nerves couldn't take me to panic more Grin how are things at the moment ?

Step away from Google at 3 a.m., that's all! Sorry to hear your DH is going through all that too (DH also waiting for biopsy results, which I suspect is standard but still nervewracking).

Hi, is your dh waiting for biopsy results from the ulcer ?
Dh has a nodule on his thyroid, apparently rarely malignant, and if so can be very treatable. I'm holding into that, he isn't stressed about this at all, I'm just such a worrier.

Hi my dh had one one and also had a hernia. They did an endoscopy and took biopsy all was clear. They repeated this after 8 wks as they said there were some red areas and it was all cleared up next time they looked as it had responded to the meds

Thanks Sanna (yes, DH also has a hernia, apparently).
