Why do I have itchy spots but only around my ankle sock line?

That's it really, I have had these spots for about three weeks now, nowhere else but on the back of my ankles, where the top of my socks is. They are VERY itchy.

Any ideas?

We don't have any animals, and I can't think of the last time we went to a house that does.

I have a couple of new pairs of socks, but most of them are my usual old ones. He be always used a variety of washing powder, what ever is on offer. Maybe I should stick to one for a bit?

Fleas. My aunt had them and shes a clean freak. But it was around all their ankles where the bites were.

We have never had any animals, but we somehow managed to get a house infestation of fleas!

First thought fleas, but if I get ingrown hairs after epilation that's where I get them,

I'm afraid this really does sound like fleas, especially the fact that the bites are only around your sock line. I once lived in a rented house where there were no animals but there was a flea infestation.

Oh bugger! So ,how do I find out where they're coming from? Our carpets were new and we don't have pets. Does that mean they've come in from somewhere on someone? And how come its only me? Trying to think if I've been in anyone else's house.

And what do I do about it?

He'll, bed bugs? So, bed and carpets are only 5 months old, as is the house! Aaaaaargh!

Yes,another vote for fleas! But I think more likely to be animal fleas than human,in which case do they not find human blood unsuitable and die??

DewDr0p · 20/01/2013 19:55

I think fleas more likely. Sorry OP.

They don't always bite everyone, some people seem to be more tasty than others. If the carpets and furniture are all new then it can't be a full infestation, just a few hardy little buggers.

Yep fleas.

Get the council to come and spray. Cost me £150 when I moved into a house who had left it full of fleas. Yuck.

Hoover lots.

If you're unlucky enough to be tasty to a flea (like me) it may only be one or two biting you multiple times. I have often been bitten up to six times by one flea so it could be a random one that you have picked up from somewhere. If you want to trat your house though just in case I would recommend indorex, we used it during a nasty infestation last year and it cleared everything up instantly.

Years ago DH had flea bites like you describe, but I had none. Eventually he bit the bullet and raised it with colleagues and it turns out they were all being bitten too. His work had to close to clear the infestation. Any chance you could be being bitten at work or somewhere else that you go?

I disagree with most of the posters as I've had this and mine was definately an allergic reaction to new socks. We have no carpet in our house or pets.

Hmmm, lots to think about here. I am baffled, I have to say. How can tiny little things leave great big spots like these? They are almost so big thy are kind of joined together.

So, god knows where they are. We have hard floors downstairs, but carpets upstairs, but how would they have got there? Actually ,not sure I want to know!

We had hard floors downstairs and carpets upstairs the same as you. When we had our infestation, I can only think that one of us brought a couple home in our clothes from somewhere.

Oh balls, guess I will have to go and get some sort of spray then. Where do you get it from? A pet shop or a hardware shop?
