Should I go to A&E?

I don't want to as I was diagnosed with 'anxiety' 6 years ago and it seems like every problem I have had since then has been put down to that. I actively avoid going to the GP now. I have had palps, chest/back pain for months now but have not had it checked out as I know the GP will say it's anxiety.

I feel really bad today though and very scared - maybe my poor overworked heart has had enough Sad.

Fuck it, I'm off! Hate to feel like I'm wasting their time and feel even more stupid when they tell me it's nothing!

Thanks.

Nobody can EVER diagnose you over t'interweb and you shouldn't mess around with chest pain and for that reason go and get yourself checked over.

HOWEVER do not melt down in panic, ALL your symptoms are COMMON symptoms of anxiety and that is most likely all it is, get yourself checked and then BELIEVE the drs and allow yourself to calm down.

Good luck, health anxiety is shit.

Go.

And if it is due to anxiety, then make an appointment with your GP to discuss ways of dealing with it. You shouldn't have to live in pain and fear.

If your GP is useless, go to a different one.

Agree with GobblersSparklyExplodingKnob.

TeenTwinsToddlerandTiaras - in the 6 years that you have been diagnosed with anxiety, have you been given any coping strategies for anxiety attacks?

Thank you all. Been and back now. I was seen within 5 mins! Blood pressure, ECG and blood test all came back clear so it was another massive panic attack Blush. Docs very nice and understanding.

Thyroid problems were brought up which have been a bone of contention of mine for a long time. Whilst living abroad I had a 'goitre' and was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid and prescribed synthetic thyroid medication (small pink pills). We came back to the UK shortly after and GP here insisted on blood tests before prescribing and refused as blood test 'normal' so was diagnosed with 'anxiety'. Canadian GP was 'wrong' apparently Hmm. I did feel better on the pills though Hmm. I will have to go back to GP methinks.

Glad it was nothing serious, but do go back to your GP. And if you feel you are not being taken seriously, change docs.

Glad to hear that you are back home and not in any danger. You did the right thing to get checked over, the pain in the left arm was a worrying feature of your symptoms I felt.
Take things easy for a few days TTTT.

I do think you should chase up the thyroid thing. My friend had problems for years- which all pointed to a classic underactive thyroid but the test kept coming back as normal and so she was told she had MS and all sorts. Eventually when she got really ill she went to a new GP who referred her to an endocrine specialist and although one of the tests still came back normal another one showed she did in fact have thyroid problems. She got medication and after a year or so of adjustment says she feels like a new woman and feels 10 years of her life were wasted feeling crap.

Very glad you are medically well.

But, this is not a way to go on with your life.

Either, you've got an underlying thyroid thingie, or you've got an underlying hear thingie, or an underlying anxiety thingie.

Which is of no surprise - apart from anything else - you are living with pain and worrying symptoms.

Take the latest A+E referral and go back to your GP and ask them to refer you to an endocrinologist, and a psychologist.

Am glad you got checked out, never sit back on those sort of symptoms - even if they happen tonight, kai?
