hi everyone..

Over a month ago I started getting pains along my neck, shoulder and down my left arm. The doctor said it was probably just a trapped nerve due to swelling in my face from an abscess. I was told once swelling went down the pain should subside but it didn't. The pain continued to get worse, then I started losing the sensation and became extremely weak in my left arm. I was admitted into hospital. This then left my arm and spread to both my legs but hospital thought it was just down to morphine and other medication but then they realised i couldn't walk. I had X-ray, blood tests, MRI and lumbar puncture but still they couldn't figure it out. I was told that it was due to an infection or inflammation of nerves and I will be walking a week after it started. I then started suffering severe spasms in my legs. They violently shake which causes my whole body to shake. These last about half hour. Nothing seems to be improving. This was a month ago and I'm still unable to walk. I can use crutches to go to toilet and back but that comes with great difficulty.

I'm currently awaiting more tests but I am so frustrated being like this and petrified that it's permanent. I can't look after my little girl on my own and have to have someone with me the majority of the time

I'm hoping someone may have a little insight as to what could be going on?

I am so scared because it's the unknown. I have no control over my body and what's going to happen next and that is a frightening prospect!!

Any one with words of wisdom please share. Thanks xx

oh dear scaringly sounds like my symptoms.... the powers that be tested me door vitD deficiency after about a year of not knowing wot was wrong with me! 2years on I still have not had a definite diagnosis. I also have a little girl who I cnt luk after.... have a carer & the rest of time my dad lurks after me n child.

I know u said in hospital u had blood test but dId they check for vitD??? aparently it is a special test & not covered in norm blood test. maybe worth mentioning to ur G.P.

I feel for u as I'm going through similiar things & know how deflating the whole thing can be but stay strong :)

Tiny, have they tested you for Guillain Barre syndrome?

Sounds similar to what I have, FND functional neurological disorder.
All tests come back ok because there is no structural problem, there is a problem with the message sending system, causing sensory problems spasms and a whole host of things, it's commonly hard to diagnose and is only done when all else is ruled out. I found that many Heath care workers had never heard of it.

Neuro physio is helpful.
