Itch, Itch - Scratchety Scratch - How on earth do I stop it?

Hi. Happy New Year

We were all poorly over the xmas hols ds in particular was very bad with spectacular projectile vomitting and a cough. Whenever he gets quite ill he seems to have a bad rash all over his body this time it is under his arms and the poor little mite is scratching so hard it's making the whole area sore. He also does it in his sleep and as a consequence is waking up every couple of hours during the night. He's tired, I'm tired, we're all grumpy. I've tried calamine lotion, oats and chamomile/lavender in his bath with no luck and wondered if anyone had any suggestion for something I could apply topically or homeopathic remedies of some kind.

the bottle I have says not recommended under 12 months, but 1-2 years 2.5ml, max 2 doses daily.

It sounds like hives my dd had a bad bout of it xmas eve day.It is most like a reaction to the virus he has just had.I would try nhs direct and try to keep him cool in light layers. For my dd piriton is the only thing that works.Looking at the bottle it says children aged 1-2 years can have 1x2 lots of 5ml spoonfuls in every 24 hours. Sorry just seen Gillians reply lol late night early morning thick head.Hope he is better soon.

My DS (3) was ill over christmas too. He had a very high temperature (106!) and then developed a rash. The rash went but was still itchy. My doc said that it was a virus and the itchyness was a flare up of exczema caused by the dehydrating effects of the fever and prescribed him Oilatum for the bath and Aqueous Cream. He only ever had baby exczema BTW and grew out of it (I thought) at about one year old
