I am about climbing the walls with sciatica - not helped by the fact that I am overweight. I know I must lose weight but does anyone know of anything that will give relief - apart from painkillers. I just feel that all I have done recently is to throw painkillers over my throat and I dont want to keep doing that - help please!!!!!

rest, couple with excercise.lie flat on your back on the floor when you get the chance. walk as much as possible. this strentghtens the back muscles and usually helps ease it better. bend at the knee when getting things from lower down. not the waist. wear a special belt if you can get hold of one. i had one when pregnant and found it gave some relief, though not a cure all.

Are you pregnant? I had that during pregnancy and the baby moved and it went away. Really painful thing to have. Poor u. If not, don't know. Chiropractor? Would that help that sort of thing? Probably talking out my backside! Someone on here will know a cure I am sure!

There are two kinds, IME - one benefits from gentle stretches (lie on back, knees up to chest eg) but the other kind hates exercises, which make the inflammation worse. Try a bit, and see? One friend swears by frozen peas (aka ice packs) alternated with hotwater bottle, me I take nurofen and rest as much as possible. Which isn't much, with a 2 year old. Good luck!

No not pregnant- just fat Think I might give the ice packs alternated with heat a try. Have to say that I think I seriously aggravated this at our works night out with some of my daft behaviour then I fell on boxing day - sober - I promise

Yes, go and see a reputable chiropractor. Mine had a proper preganant ladies couch to allow treatment for those with a bump.

Its worth every penny.

Excellent Loobz - western medicine is by and large pants, treating the symptoms and not the cause. You won't regret a good chiro
