Does the pill make you Fat???

Dh is fed up of using condoms but we wernt able to use a hormone based contraceptive because i had imbalances that over the last few months have sorted themselvs out. So now he wants me to go on the pill.

What are the pros and cons, and does it really make you put on weight?

Dont like the idea of the coil - just makes me feel wierd about have something stuck up there perminatly (as opposed to for 2 mins when dh gets his way )

We tried the female condom - never again!

Any suggestions?

I put on weight with microgynon - felt hungry all the time. Lost weight on marvelon.

If getting PG wouldn't be a nightmare, think about the diaphragm. You don't know it is there and can put it in prior to nookie.

I think the thing with the diaphram is that it takes away some of the spontiaity? And dh likes it twice a day so it would be in ad out alot

no, you can put it in before anything starts, unlike the condom, so there is no 'break' once you are 'away' if you see what I mean!

DH suggested a vasectomy but I might decide i want another in a few years- am only 22

I think it just makes you hungrier, so it just depends on how well you control your increased appetite, easier said that done!!

I do sometimes in the night when I am trying to sleep but his arm starts trying to get up my fleecy jammie top grrr so its easier to give in, wait the 2 mins and then go back to sleep uninterupted! I would rather have great sex twice a week that crap sex at every opportunity

I'd think quite carefully about going back on the pill if you had hormonal problems in the past. I did this at the beginning of this year (albeit with the pill and then the Mirena coil) and I have regretted it every day since then. It caused huge hormonal problems and to be honest, I still don't feel as well as I did before I decided to try contraception again.

But I must say, twice a day is bloody heroic on your part.

Its not that i dont want it, and its not that i do - im just not bothered either way IYSWIM.

I can see what you are saying about it can recause hormonal problems. Its only in the last few months i have started having periods again because I didnt before that - talk about a late starter! I may have had about 4 in my whole life before then. I really dont want to mess up my cycle again.

Oh and as for telling him to 'go have a wank' I frequently say "of FFS go do it yourself...no not my hand - your own hand" :::sigh::: but like i said he then thinks i want my boobs/bum groped whilst he does it - no thanks!

Dh doesn't 'like' the condopm but he's understanding enough to use it, as the pill REALLY doesn't suit me (or in fact my sisters / Mum too). Basically, the first attempt at using the pill when I was 18 resulted in severe depression and an attempted overdose, using a differentr ecommended one to delay my period when I got married turned me into an evil bitch for the honeymoon.
