Urine infections and homebirth?

I am currently nearly 36 weeks and for the past week I have had a pain rather like a stitch in my right side (kind of just where the top of your knickers are). After feeling increasingly worse and after having one night of horrible sickness and diarrhoea (which my husband had also!) I went to see MW who tested very dark urine sample and has sent it away for further testing. Blood pressure was fine as was the baby's heartbeat but she said that there was a lot of protein in it. Does anyone know what this means? MW said a urine or kidney infection. I have looked up in books for information and it just points to pre-eclampsia, but I don't think it's this as BP was fine.
I have one more week until I can 'by NHS standards' have my baby at home in my birthing pool. I really want to hang in there and have not had any other ill health during my pregnancy. Does anyone know if this may scupper my chances or have any advice on how to get rid of it. Thanks

Sorry SS not much advice but your knicker comment made me laugh - what sort of knickers do you wear?? My belly warmers are high but my under bump cousin wears teeny weeny bikini things!
I reckon as long as your blood pressure is OK you should be fine. I had 3 or 4 water infections last time and you must get antibiotics if the test is positive. This time have protein and all sorts in my urine but no infection and no one seems worried but say I have to eat more regularly so could be related to the sickness and diarrhoea maybe?

Hi LL, Thanks for information. I don't wear hooded knickers to keep the rain from my head. I guess in retrospect the knicker geography is not the most useful pain locating description! I wear under the bump pantaloons. Not to say that my bum's not big...by heck it is. But the pain is on the pube line on the right hand side if that's any more graphic!

Yep that does sound like a UTI. You know since I saw your thread I've started to think that I may have one too!! Maybe you've passed it on - are you feeling better??
