My sister is on the phone to NHS Direct as we speak, but just in case anyone on MN has any experience or knowledge, how worried should you be if a six-month old baby manages to eat a Peace Lily?

edam, I just looked at a general plant/poisin website and it had this note for spathiphyllum:

2. Oxalates: The juice or sap of these plants contains microscopic oxalate crystals. Oxalate crystals are shaped like tiny needles. Chewing these plants may resultin pain and irritation of the mouth, lips and tongue. In severe cases, swelling of the throat may cause breathing difficulties. These plants usually cause problems in older children with a full set of teeth.

Er, yeah but so is my French neighbour who I am avoiding because I want to go to bed in 10 mins and do not want to be dragged into a conversation in French at 10.55pm!

A 6-month-old won't have many teeth so hopefully won't have ingested too much? Which bit/s did he/she eat?

Sorry I disappeared, my ds decided he wanted some attention too!

NHS Direct nurse told my sister pretty much the same. And she doesn't think the baby can have had much, if any, of the plant... baby has been a little sick, twice, but seems OK.
