A vertical line of rash / spots ??

Anyone know what this might be - DS has got a vertical band of little rash like red spots running from his chest down to his 'bits'. No spots anywhere else - just in this line pattern. Fairly small & hard to see - but they are there.

We haven't changed any washing powder or anything I can think of.

Sounds like shingles as it follows a nerve usually, hence it being straighter than normal. It doesnt have to be on the back my sister has just had it on her neck and by her eye. How old is ds?

Hes 5. I've had shingles & I think the spots were bigger than DSs - I know they run along a nerve.
He's fine in himself - not itchy or anything.

I thought shingles was a band of rash around the waistline.

Shingles can show up anywhere there's a nerve - my MIL gets it on her chest and around her eye. It does sound like shingles to me. Does it hurt? Shingles is very, very painful, and can remain painful for a long time after the rash has gone.

No he says it doesn't itch or hurt. Just been looking on Google & shingles usually seems to travel in a horizontal band. He has had chicken pox thought which you need before you get shingles

One thing is shingles in children isn't as nasty as in adults (I had it & it was horrid & area on my back where it was still feels funny)

ds1 had shingles at 5. The spots are big, like blisters

Yes I don't think it is shingles. Hopefully its just a heat rash or something. He's in bed now - quite happy. Will check on him later
Thanks all

When ds1 had shingles, I blamed MIL for 2 days for giving him sweets full of additives till I realised it looked exactly like the Herpes Zoster picture in one of my college textbooks! Didn't occur to me that a five year old would get it.

When my brother was younger he got a tiny cut on his thumb which led to a rash running from the infected cut towards his lymph glands. The gp gave him an antibiotic by injection to halt the infection before it reached the glands in his armpits, which was where it was heading.

I don't know that it could be the same thing as in my brothers case it was more like a definite stripe and I know it sounds strange but it did happen!

If it doesn't go I'd be tempted to have him checked just in case it's something unusual.

When DS1 had molluscum some of his little spots were in vertical lines, one in particular on his upper arm that looked as if someone had drawn it - they were so regular.
